Passed in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: March 10th, 2012

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Ronita Burrows, our mother, sister, aunt and grandmother on March 10, 2012, at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay.
Born on Bay Street, Glace Bay, to the late Hector and Sarah Debison she spent most of her married life at 77 Currie St. and since 2008 was a resident of the new wing at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay.
Mom was deeply loved and will be thoroughly missed by her four children, Ron Burrows (Nancy), Ronita Burrows (Francie), George Burrows (Debbie) and Paulette McKenna (Mike). Nana will stay forever in the hearts of her grandchildren, Lyndsay, Kyle and Allyson Burrows of Ontario, Rene (Mike) and Liam MacCandless, Glace Bay, Gregory Burrows, Halifax, Brennan Burrows, Saskatoon, Jenna Burrows, Brianna and Jillian MacKeigan, Glace Bay, Meaghan Catalano (Rob), Michael McKenna, Montreal, and Katie and Erin McKenna, Albert Bridge. Mom is also survived by her sister and best friend, Andrea Bettens of Glace Bay, who shared such wonderful stories with us during these past few weeks; her brother, Dan Debison and sister-in-law Kay of Glace Bay; sister-in law, Joyce Debison, Cambridge Ont.; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as the wonderful staff of the Seaview Manor who loved mom like their own mother, allowing her to live in tranquility and die with dignity.
Mom was predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years Ron, her brother, Frank Debison, brother-in-law, Frank Bettens, and brother and sister-in-law, Wilfred ‘Kid’ and Mary Roache of Antigonish.
Mom attended St. Anne’s School and in her early years worked at Eatons. She often recalled wonderful memories of those days and we, her children, were frequently told touching stories about her by her co-workers. Following years of raising her family of four, she worked at Speed Galley’s, Sid Meloney’s Shoes, and Ellie Marshalls. Upon completion of a home nursing course in the 1960s at St. Joseph’s Hospital, she sat with many terminally ill patients who shared the privilege of her warm and caring personality.
Visitation will be held at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay on Tuesday, March 13, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Anne’s Church on Wednesday, March 14, 10 a.m. with Rev. Leo Boone officiating. Burial will be held in the parish cemetery.
Condolences may be e-mailed to the family at jmcurry@ns.sympatico.ca.
-An Irish Blessing-
There is but one and only one,
Whose love will fail you never.
One who lives from sun to sun,
With constant fond endeavour.
There is but one and only one,
On earth there is no other.
In heaven a noble work was done,
When God created mother.
