Gerald Mitchell Hemlow

Gerald Mitchell Hemlow, 93, of L'Hôpital Sainte-Anne (veterans' hospital), Montreal, passed away on March 3, 2012, after a brief illness.
Gerald was born September 29, 1918, in Liscombe, NS, the son of (Henry) Milton Hemlow (1875-1941) and (Besse) Katherine Rudolph (1883-1963).
He was predeceased by his brothers Lorne (1906-2000) and Lionel (1909-1938), and his sisters Evelyn (1908-1998) and Maxine (1910-1977).
He is survived by his sister, Muriel, widow of Cecil Parker Smith, and numerous nephews and nieces.
During World War II, Gerald served overseas, and received five medals, including the Voluntary Service Medal and the 1939-1945 Star. After the war he settled in Montreal, and worked in textile manufacturing, a hardware store, and textile retail. He would frequently travel to New Glasgow, NS, and Liscombe, NS, to visit his relatives, who will always remember his skills as a raconteur and humorist.
At his request, there will be no funeral. The cremated remains will be buried at the Last Post Fund Field of Honour, Pointe Claire, Quebec, with a graveside service, at a later date.
