Legate, Allan Benjamin “Ben”, Truro, passed away on March 10, 2012 in the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax. Ben was born on February 5, 1931 in Belleville, Ontario to the late John and Annie (MacKay) Legate. He retired from Lafarge Canada in Brookfield. In his younger years he coached minor football, hockey and baseball. His cartoons and his sense of humor will be missed by his family and many friends. Ben is survived by his wife, Nancy (Heffler); sons, Ian, Truro; Mark, Dartmouth; Jonathan, Halifax; daughter, Debra, Montreal; grandchildren, Jessie (Amy), Halifax; Camille and Nicolas, Montreal; great-granddaughter Lucy, Halifax; brother, Robert, Edmonton, Alberta. He was predeceased by two brothers and a sister. Visitation will begin at 1pm on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 until the time of the memorial service at 2pm, all in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, with Rev. Clair MacLeod officiating. Interment will be held in the spring in the Terrace Hill Cemetery, Truro. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
