It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Raymond Mortimer at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Munden and Phoebe (Paddick) Mortimer.
He was employed as an X-ray technician in Sydney for the Province of Nova Scotia House, then moving on to Citizenship and Immigration until his retirement.
He was a member of the Parish of the Resurrection for many years and also the choir. He was a member of many choirs for over 40 years, including the Celtic Chords which he was a founding member in 1951 as well as the Trinity Chords. Ray was involved in the Rotary shows such as Oklahoma and Fiddler on the Roof.
Ray is survived by his loving wife, Rose Marie (Garland); son, Peter (Stacy), Sydney, with granddaughter Gracie Rae Marie on the way; sister, Ruby McVicar, Sydney; brothers, James ‘Jim’ (Ina) Mortimer, New Brunswick, Stewart ‘Dinny’ Mortimer, Ontario/Florida; many nieces and nephews as well as beloved dog Scooter.
Besides his parents, Ray was predeceased by his sister, Gladys Ross, brothers, Sid and Fraser ‘Mort.’
Cremation has taken place. Family will be receiving family and friends for one hour at 1 p.m., Friday, March 16 at Christ the King Church, George Street, until service time at 2 p.m. with Rev. Karen Quirk officiating. There will be a reception to follow at St. George’s Hall, Nepean Street.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the SPCA.
