Passed in: North Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: March 13th, 2012
It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Lawrence Mansfield, 51, loving son, husband, father, grandfather and brother, on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, in the Ana Cala Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in North Sydney, Lawrence was the son of Nancy (O’Toole) Mansfield, Bras d’Or and the late Daniel Mansfield.
Lawrence was manager of Vernon d’Eon Lobster Plugs in North Sydney and also co-owner of Ollie Around Skate Boards in North Sydney and Sydney River, a business he shared with his wife Betty and son Ryan. He was involved with the Northside Skate Board Park and other skate board parks on the Northside. He enjoyed travelling with his wife Betty.
Lawrence was a faithful servant and Warden of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney.
Lawrence was a vibrant spirit and shared a light and joy that was shared by all whom he met and his humor adding life to his days and those around him. Though his life may have been touched by cancer, however; his dying was as unique as his own life had been.
He chose to celebrate life while making many final and powerful memories, not allowing his illness to control how he lived life, but rather choosing to live life fully and moving forward until life here with us was to be no more as he entered into his eternal home with God our Heavenly Father.
He will be sadly missed and forever loved within our hearts.
Besides his mother Nancy, Lawrence is survived by his loving wife, Betty (Burton) Mansfield; his son, Ryan, at home; a daughter, Amanda (Greg) Lawson, Moncton; two grandsons, Asher and Levi; his sister, Lee (Kenneth); brother, Mel (Vicki); sister-in-law, Linda Mansfield; father-in-law, Norman Burton; several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Judy (Herb) Waters, Jack (Darlene) Burton, Pauline Burton and Brenda (Russie) Gordon.
He was predeceased by his father, Daniel Mansfield and his brother, Daniel Mansfield, his mother-in-law, Elva Burton.
Visitation for Lawrence will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. ‘=A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Carl Fraser officiating.
