Norman Keirstead

KEIRSTEAD, NORMAN - Norman Dorsey Keirstead, 80, of Moncton passed away peacefully March 13, 2012 at the Moncton Hospital with his family at his side. Born in Portland, Maine, he was a son of the late Elwell and Florence (Thorne) Keirstead. At an early age his family returned to Havelock where he graduated from the former Havelock High School. He worked for Sumner Tire & Automotive Ltd. and then became the Maritime Manager for Mister Muffler, later Speedy Muffler. He went on to be a self employed businessman and retired as an agent with Century 21 Real Estate. He was the last serving Mayor of the then Village of Lewisville where he worked tirelessly in the establishment of the Kay Arena. He was a member and Past Master of the Harmony Lodge No. 20 F& AM, Salisbury, a Shriner where he served as transportation chairman for sick children for many years and was a member of Riverview Baptist Church. A cancer survivor he established the Moncton Cancer Support Group where he made many lasting friendships. Survived by his beloved wife Lorna (Milner-Jones); his children Barry (Carol Ann) of Quispamsis, Brian of Riverview, Bonnie Redden (Keith) of Halifax, Brent (Fay) and Blake (Denise) of Moncton; step children Madge Hoar (Richard) of Salisbury and Dyson Jones (Andrea) Sussex Corner; his brother Herbert (Shirley) of Petitcodiac; 20 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; the mother of his children Rowena Brown of Moncton; his step mother Erma Keirstead of Petitcodiac and her family; brother in law Kenneth Milner (Marjorie) of Saint John, nieces and nephews.
Resting at the Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Salisbury Road (372-4800) with visiting Thursday 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. The Funeral will be held from the Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, March 16 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jonathan Gorham officiating. Interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Petitcodiac at a later date. If desired memorials to the Shriners Hospital for Sick Children or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family. www.keirsteads.ca
