MAVIS FRANCES ROODE
(nee Hendricks)
May 28th, 1934 - December 8th, 2009
In Love and Spirit, it is with great humility we release Mavis Frances, loving wife, beloved mother and cherished grandmother into the hands of her Creator.
On December 8, 2009 at 12:30 a.m. surrounded by her loving family, Mavis gently passed.
Mavis was born on the 28th of May in 1934 in Cape Town, South Africa. A brilliant star from birth, Mavis began dancing at the age of 4 with the Cape's renowned Eoan Group for the Performing Arts. Mavis was highly creative and very passionate about many avenues of expression, music, sewing, food, cooking and sharing stories brought her much joy and she freely shared her talents and gifts with those open to receiving them. Mavis touched many lives, generously contributing to the community of Kamloops. Her involvements included, Ladies Auxiliary to Kamloops Minor Hockey, St. Paul's ACW and Thrift Shop. Mavis was also an avid member of the Tai Chi Group at Cottonwood Community Center.
Mavis is predeceased by her mother Frances, her father Walter, brothers Neville and Noel, and her sister Myrna. Mavis immigrated to Kamloops in 1967 with her husband James, her daughter Sangoma Pauline and her sons, Terrance (Liza) and Kevin (Kelli). Mavis will be lovingly remembered as "Grand Mae" and greatly missed by her six grandchildren, Dayne and Damara, Noah and Ethan, and Taya and Tiana.
We would like to thank the emergency staff at Royal Inland Hospital for their gracious support in making our Mavis comfortable in the final hours of her life. Thank you to Reverend Louise Peters of St. Paul's Church for her prayers and offerings, and Schoening Funeral Home for their guidance and kind support.
A Celebration of Mavis's life will be held at St. Paul's Cathedral (located at the corner of 4th and Nicola) on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. A reception tea will be held in the adjoining hall after the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Please make cheques to the Kamloops CanGo Grannies and mail to 400 Sun Rivers Drive West, Kamloops, BC, Canada V2H 1R6.
