Passed away unexpectedly at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in the Codroy Valley, where he resided. His railroad career began in Halifax NS; he transferred to Newfoundland where he spent the majority of his career. He loved his work with the railway until its closure in 1988. He was very active with his union to support his coworkers. He had a passion for hobby farming, music and songwriting. He had written over 70 songs, with some recorded. He always enjoyed politics and a good debate. He was unwavering for his love and support for his family.
Leaving to mourn: wife Martha; 9 children Debra (Doug) Webber; Andy (Juanita); Walter; Gloria (Terry) Chaulk; Mary (Brian) Welshman; Martin; Agnes; Joan (Gary Kelland); Teresa (Bob) Teskey; 22 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, brothers; Jerome (Rose Mary) ,Joseph and sisters; Theresa Cashin, Kathleen (Kevin) Barry, Anne MacNeil, Lucy (James) Briggs, many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Predeceased by his parents, Theresa and James; brothers Edward, Bernard and Anthony and sisters Frances MacIsaac, Cecilia Hall and Sister Mary Andrina.
The family would like to express their thanks for the excellent care James received while in the care of the nurses and doctors at the Dr. Charles Legrow Health Center and the Western Memorial Regional Health Center.
