MR. ALEX DOWHAY
Dowhay – Alex, age 91 passed away at the Herb Bassett Home with his family by his side on Tuesday, December 8, 2009. At the age of 9, he and his family emigrated from the Ukraine to Canada settling in the Foxford district. He remained on the family farm until 2006 when he and mom moved to Prince Albert. Grain and livestock farming were his passion as were fishing, gardening, tending his bountiful fruit trees and carpentry. However, his greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. He cherished the roles of husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Dad is survived by Mary, his loving wife of 60 years; his children and grandchildren Betty (David), Desmond & Krista, Dianne (Gordon), Brian (Lynn), Tyler (Lorece), Tyson, Justin & Jarrid, Barry (Shelley), Shannon (Quinn), Shawn & Greg, Douglas (Debbie), Bryce, Donna (Doug), Kayla & Aliya; his 4 great-grandchildren Brendyn, Emily, Ashley and Caidance. Dad is also survived by his sister Mary; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Dad was predeceased by his parents Paraska and Stephan; his stepfather George; his sister Olga; his mother and father-in-law Nellie and Frank; sisters-in-law Joyce and Josie; brothers-in-law George, Fred, John, Walter, Fred, James and Adolph. Dad will be remembered for his love of family, his warm welcoming smile, his optimism, his patience, his strong work ethic and his love of laughter. A celebration of Dad’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 12 from River Park Memorial Chapel with Margaret Ferchuk officiating. A private family interment will follow in the Garden of the Old Rugged Cross, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens.
