BETTY MARY THOMSON
(nee Cumming)
February 12, 1922 - December 8, 2009

It is with great sadness that we announce that Betty passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at Royal Inland Hospital in her 88th year.

She is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Walter, in 1997 and brothers Harold, Donald and John.

Betty was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She will be missed by her children, Greg (Carolyn), Jim (Kathy), Jennifer (Peter) and her grandchildren, Jarod, Alyson (Jordon), Darren, Ryan, Greg, Chad, Steven, Alex, Clare, Jaclyn and her Great Granddaughter, Jenna.

Betty was born and raised in Bashaw, Alberta. While working at the Royal Bank she met a handsome young Engineer from Regina and in 1945 she and Walter were married in Calgary.

They briefly lived in Logan, Utah where Walter earned his Masters degree and then they resided on an acreage in Lethbridge where their three children were born. The family then moved to Cutbank, Saskatchewan while the South Saskatchewan Dam was being constructed. These were exciting and memorable times for a young family. Betty and Walter then moved to Regina where Betty was active with her family, the family farm, Engineers wives and a volunteer for numerous community causes. Later Betty and Walt retired to an acreage outside of Regina and were well known in the Arabian Horse community. In 1994 they moved to Kamloops where Betty resided until her passing.

Betty will be remembered as a loving wife and Mother, Grandmother and a tremendously loyal friend. Betty always put others ahead of herself. You could count on her for her willingness to help and support; be there for your triumphs and be by your side in a time of need.

Betty was a staunch Roughrider fan, loved curling and enjoyed playing bridge her whole life. Betty was known for her wonderful sense of humor which she used regularly to brighten a situation, contest a point and see the brighter side of a situation.

Betty will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. The family would sincerely like to thank Dr. Simpson, for his kindness, and the nurses at Royal Inland Hospital as well as the caring staff at Kamloops Seniors Village.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, December 13, 2009 at 3:00 P.M. at Summit Drive Baptist Church, 1975 Summit Drive. A gathering and dinner to follow at 1843 Whistler Court.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 201-635 Victoria Street, Kamloops, BC, V2C 2B3 in her name would be appreciated.
