It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Leonard Jones of Jessome Street, Glace Bay. Leonard passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 18, 2012, at the Glace Bay Hospital, surrounded by his family following a brief illness.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Fitz and Frances ‘Albertha’ (Williams) Jones.
Leonard was a devote member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church.
He was employed with Air Canada, retiring in 2001 after 30 years of service.
Leonard was a talented musician and singer. He was a member of the legion choir. He also was an avid gardener.
Leonard is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn; son, David, at home; daughter, Marilyn ‘Tubby’ (Mrs. Ed McNeil), as well as two beautiful and precious granddaughters, Meaghan and Kaitlin McNeil, whom he loved dearly and spent quality time with daily. Leonard is also survived by his brother, Victor, Glace Bay; sisters, Francina ‘Mig’ (Samvel Taylor), Charleston, S.C., Hilda (late, Joseph Williams), Teaneek, N.J., and Violet King, Glace Bay. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Leonard will be also be sadly missed by his many colleagues and friends.
Besides his parents, Leonard was predeceased by brothers, Norman and David.
In honouring Leonard’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, March 22, 2012, at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay, with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
Donations in Leonard’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
