It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, Violet Doris Morrison, age 79, a resident of the Northside Community Guest Home and former resident of 406 Purves St., North Sydney, on Tuesday March 13, 2012, at the Northside General Hospital.
Violet was born in London, England, the daughter of the late Harold and Ruby Day. In her earlier years she worked in London with the police force. She was a long time employee with the Canadian Coast Guard in Ottawa, until her retirement and move to North Sydney with her late husband William Morrison. Violet was well known as the “English Lady”. She was a kind and generous person who was always willing to help people in need and an active volunteer with the North Sydney Food Bank. She was a great animal lover, enjoyed playing bingo, was an avid tennis fan and an excellent athlete in her younger years.
Violet is survived by her daughter, Dr. Christine Birchansky (Richard), Fairfax Station, Virginia, U.S.A.; her stepchildren, James (Alice) Orpen, Belleville, Ont., Mary-Rose Morrison, Montreal, Que., Suzanne (Tom) Perrenoud, Austin, Texas. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. Also surviving her are extended family members of her late husband, William Morrison.
Violet was predeceased by her beloved husband, William Morrison, and her four older siblings.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral service for Violet will be held at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
