HALIFAX/TRENTON – Murray ‘Allan’ Nowlan, 58, Northwood Manor, Halifax, formerly of Trenton, N.S., passed away peacefully at the QEII Health Sciences Centre of complications from pneumonia on Thursday, December 10, 2009.
He was the son of Catherine ‘John’ Nowlan of Northwood Manor, Halifax; and the late Harry D. Nowlan.
Allan attended Trenton High School and was a former employee of Michelin Tire. After his accident 35 years ago, Allan was cared for by many wonderful people including the VON, Home Care, his parents, neighbours, friends and most recently the staff of 11 Manor.
Surviving besides his mother is a sister, Paulette (Art) Tanner, Hammonds Plains; son, Burton (Laurie) Nowlan, B.C.; granddaughter, Anika Nowlan; niece, Annette (Tanner) Rick Martin, Dartmouth; nephews: Art (Cheryl) Tanner; Douglas PJ (Tracy) Tanner, Hammonds Plains; great-nephews, Branden and Tyler Martin, AJ Tanner and great-niece, Hailey Tanner, and many cousins.
He was predeceased by special aunt, Margaret Barr; grandparents Murray (Alice) Nowlan and Colin D. (Bessie) MacDonald and many other aunts and uncles.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held in First United Church, Trenton at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 with Rev. Debra Orton officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.
