Rev. Lee Malcolm MacNaughton
Pictou – Rev. Lee MacNaughton, 96, of Pictou, formerly Scotsburn, passed away March 25, 2012 at the Northumberland Veterans Wing in Pictou.
Born in Watertown, Massachusetts, December 22, 1915, a son of Malcolm Alexander MacNaughton and Bessie Amanda (Garby) MacNaughton. Moved to Black River, New Brunswick and later to Chatham, NB. Graduated from Chatham High School. Attended Teachers College in Truro. After graduation, he taught school in Portree, Inverness County; North River, Lunenburg County and Lake Ainslie, Cape Breton.
Enlisted in the Halifax Rifles in July 1940, which became an Armored Regiment in 1942. Went overseas in 1943; stationed in Worthing, New Milton, near Bournemouth; and Hlackdown, near Aldershot, England. The last year and a half overseas was with the Canadian Army Educational Services. Returned to Canada in December, 1945. He attended the pre-matriculation centre in Pictou; entered Dalhousie University in the fall of 1946. While there, he was active in the Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship. Graduated with a B.A. degree in May, 1950. Attended Knox College, Toronto for his first year of Theology, and Presbyterian College, Montreal, for the second and third years. Graduated in April 1953.
As a student minister, he served summers in Sussex and Hampton, NB, New Carlisle, Quebec; Wallace, NS; Dinsmore, Saskatchewan, and Belfast, PE. Since ordination in Knox Church, Halifax, he served three years in Marshfield, PE, six and a half years Tyne Valley, PE, over ten years at Scotsburn, NS, six years at Middle River, Cape Breton; coming to the Blue Mountain Pastoral Charge in September, 1978 for ten years .
He is survived by his children, Faith (Vince)Coldwell, Meiklefield, Lawrence (Beverly) MacNaughton, Ontario and Carol (Dan) MacDonald, Trenton; six grandchildren, Lee, Mark, Daniel, Esther, Aaron and Spencer, and two sisters; Faye (Dan) Davis, Jamesville, North Carolina and Hazel (Jerry)Evans, Newport News, Virginia. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Margaret in 2005, parents Malcolm and Bessie, brothers, James Ruel and Roy, sister Phyllis.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9pm, Tuesday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home in New Glasgow. Funeral service will take place 2 pm on Wednesday from Bethel Presbyterian Church, Scotsburn with Rev. Lara Scholey. Burial will be in Garden of Eden Cemetery.
