BURKE - Marion (nee Pettinger) died in Prince Albert, SK at the age of 79, on December 10, 2009. She was predeceased by her husband, Brian, in October 2006 and brothers John and George Pettinger. Marion was born in Calgary, AB on March 28, 1930 to William and Helen Pettinger (Lamb). She left Calgary as a young woman and met Brian while working at Gulf Oil in Edmonton. They married in November 1956 and raised a family of seven. Marion will be dearly missed by her children: Lorne (Lori) and Glenn of Edmonton, Janet Laing of Bermuda, Christine (Phil Wallace), Barry (Tracey), Joe (Glynnis) of Vancouver and Janice (Scott McNaught) of Michigan; eleven grandchildren; brother Bill (Shirley) Pettinger of Iroquois, ON; brothers-in-law Larry Burke (Shirlee) of Edmonton, AB, Denis Burke (Carmen) of Victoria, BC and Kevin Burke (Kathy) of Prince Albert, SK; sister-in-law Loris Ann Shaw of Kelowna, BC and numerous nieces and nephews. Marion also leaves behind an extended family at Emma Lake, SK. Marion was a true friend to all, both young and old. She loved and was loved by so many. Her passing is a loss that is difficult to bear. Marion was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2005 and bore her suffering with grace and dignity and an extraordinary will to live. The family wish to especially acknowledge Jane Vaughn for the time and love she gave to Marion these past years, and Sharon Griffin and Mary Ann Cross for being with Marion when she needed friendship and support. The family would also like to extend sincere thanks to the Good Shepherd Villa, where Marion spent the last five years of her life and developed deep and meaningful friendships with many of the staff and residents, too numerous to mention. As Marion would never wish to inconvenience anyone, especially during this Holiday Season, a Memorial Service is being planned for Emma Lake, SK next summer. A Private Family Interment will be held at St. Christopher Cemetery, Christopher Lake, SK prior to a small service which will be celebrated at the Good Shepherd Villa, 1499 15 Ave East, Prince Albert on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to Charity of Donor’s Choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray's Funeral Chapel, Drew Gray, Funeral Director.
