James Campbell "Jim" Cox

Cox, James Campbell “Jim”, 69, Truro, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, March 24, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Truro he was a son of the late Campbell “Cam” and Kathleen “Kaye” (Landsburg) Cox. Jim resided in Riversdale until moving to Truro in 1966. Jim worked with Lloyd Nelson’s Service Station Truro, prior to joining the Truro Police Department in 1966, until his retirement as Sergeant Detective due to ill health. Part time he worked security at the Truro Raceway for several years. He was a member of St. James Presbyterian Church Truro, Masonic Lodge #43, Myrtle Chapter # 24 and the Shriners. Jim served on many local committees receiving the Dave Lavers Award along with many other recognitions for his community service. Jim was an avid racing fan. After his retirement Jim settled part time at his cottage at West Loon Lake “The Loonie Bin” which was his passion where he enjoyed his hobbies of fishing, hunting, four wheeling and snowmobiling. Jim is survived by his wife of 45 years, the former Emma Louise Messervey; daughter, Tami Cox Jardine, Falmouth, and her children, Drew, Logan and Lauren and their father, Don Jardine, Falmouth; son, Barry (Pam), Enfield, and their children, Madyson, Faith and Adrianna; special companion and fishing buddy, Morgan; sister, Karyn (Donald) Grant, Milford; brother, Kenneth (Lavenia), Riversdale; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, Alex (Kathy) Messervey, Upper Sackville NS; Kenny (Cathy) Messervey, Nine Mile River; sisters-in-law, Cindy Weatherbie, Hilden; Debbie Messervey, Brookfield. Jim’s family would like to express their most heartfelt thanks for all the support they received from all the health care providers, especially the VON and the Palliative Care Team. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro, where Jim’s family will receive friends from 2 ~ 4 and 7 ~ 9pm on Tuesday, March 27. Masonic Lodge #43 Truro will conduct a Masonic Service at the funeral home Tuesday evening at 6:45pm. Funeral service will be held 2pm Wednesday, March 28, from the First United Church, Price Street Truro, Rev. Larry Harrison officiating, assisted by Dr. Brian Ross. A reception will follow in the church hall. Family flowers only. Donation’s in Jim’s memory may be made to the Colchester Hospice Society for Palliative Care, the QE ll Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
