“SERVICE CORRECTION”

LAWRENCE WESLEY GORDON

Mr. Lawrence Gordon of Heffley Creek, BC passed away peacefully at the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice Home at the age of 83.
Lawrence was born on the family farm in Moosomin, Saskatchewan, to Mary and Howard Gordon. He was the oldest of seven children, and the Gordon clan excelled at raising Black Angus cattle. He was a member of the Rocanville 4H Club and later, the Little Bluff 4H Club. Through 4H, he showed bulls and steers at several events from 1945-1955. He won “The Best In Show,” for four years running at the Moosomin Fat Stock Show & Sale. In 1950 he showed bulls at the Regina Exhibition and at the Toronto Royal Winter Fair, where his steer won The Grand Reserve Champion Award. He farmed in the Moosomin area, until deciding to work in the West, first in AB, and then moving to Fort St. John, BC in 1966. While working on the WAC Bennett Dam, he found carpentry to be his trade of choice.
In 1969, he met and fell in love with Joan Ostero. They were married on December 31, 1970. They had three children. First they lived in Oliver, BC then they settled in the Kamloops area in 1980.
Lawrence was a Farmer, a Family Man, a Hockey Fan, a Carpenter, a Historical and Political follower, a Gardener, a Winemaker, a Loyal Friend, and a Jokester! Be it a wheat field, an orchard, or a tomato patch; he could always produce something worthy. He rose early, worked hard, and always had a sense of fun and fair play.
He is survived by his Wife: Joan Gordon; Daughter Heather (Keith) Greenhalgh; Grandsons: Ben & Liam of 108 Mile House; Daughter Mairi Gordon of Calgary, and Son: Wilferd Gordon of Fort St. John. He is also survived by his Siblings, Lorraine (Roy) McDonald of Calgary, AB; Bob (Kathy) Gordon of Regina, SK; Ray (Helen) Gordon of Fort St. John, BC; Pearl, (Bob) Trudeau of Orleans, Ont.; Grace Spanier of Calgary, AB; and Eva (Alex) Fraser of Brandon, MB.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the long time friends and neighbours who have made our loss more bearable. Also, a Special Thank you to Dr. Susan Vlahos for her exceptional compassion and support these last few years.
A Memorial will be held in the chapel of Personal Alternative Funeral Services, 177 Tranquille Rd. on Saturday, January 2nd, 2010, at 2:00 P.M.
