Toombs, Valerie (nee Gomersall)
June 3rd, 1931 to December 12th, 2009
It is with great sadness that the family of Val announces she has drawn aces and eights. Val passed away peacefully at Extendicare where she was lovingly taken care of by the staff. Mom began her life on a homestead in the Galilee area south of Moose Jaw. She is predeceased by her mother Delvina (Forrest-Croteau), her father Fred (Gomersall) and an adolescent sister Doreen; her daughter Roberta and sons in-law Steve Gregory, Gary Stevens and Skip Mason. Mom leaves behind a brother Fred (Fran) Gomersall, her children CATHY GREGORY, her family Shawn, Shanna (Patrick and children Adam and Mike) and Scott, ROBERTA’S children William and Kriszta Stevens, KELLY (Calgary) and PAT TOOMBS (Ryan) and her sons Cooper and Tyson, Craig and Aaron Mason, special son Warren Reeves and special daughters Barb and Debbie Wallin. Mom was an amazing woman. Faced with adversity, she just toughened up and met each challenge head on. She divorced when divorce was unheard of, she pioneered the way for women to sell real estate in Moose Jaw. When the economy failed in Calgary in the late 70’s, early 80’s, she persevered and became a top realtor 6 months in a row. She drove stock car (on and off the track) accumulating trophies, (and tickets) and mastered bridge late in life. Outside of her family, her biggest joy was winning poker tournaments. No words can describe the values and lessons mom taught us children and grandchildren. Mom died like she lived, with dignity and on her terms. In keeping with mom’s wishes, there will be no service, however a Celebration of Mom’s Life will be held at a later date. Mom was a recipient of care from Shrine Hospital as a child. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Shrine Hospital Fund, c/o Moose Jaw Shrine club 1767 Main St. North S6J 1L6 would be appreciated.
