SCHARF 1950 ~ 2007 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, and friend on July 12, 2007 with her family by her side, Brenda reached the end of a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born Brenda Watson, she was predeceased by her parents Bill and Bernice Watson, grandparents and several aunts and uncles. She is survived by Les, her loving husband of 30 years; her devoted daughter and friend Marcy (Mike) Horvat; Sprite, her adoring four legged companion; sister Judy; aunts and uncles Roberta and Leo Gryba, Frank and Jo Blisner and Alvin Jensen; her niece Kelly, with whom she shared a special connection; as well as many caring and dedicated friends who did all they could to make this journey less difficult. Brenda grew up in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. She always dreamed of becoming a nurse and moved to Calgary after finishing high school to attend training at Foothills Hospital, graduating in 1971 with her RN diploma. From there she worked in several ORs including Foothills Hospital, Lion's Gate Hospital in North Vancouver and Williams Lake Hospital before settling in Kamloops. She married Les in 1976. Throughout her life Brenda made many close friends. This was most obvious these past four years through this difficult disease. We will be forever grateful for the love and support that surrounded us through the good times and the bad, from sips of the "homemade red stuff", to sushi, face plants at Sun Peaks, to shopping, camping and fishing. One of Brenda's favourite hobbies was sewing - she was creative and determined - never turning down a chance at a project. Her attitude was "if you can see it, you can make it", which proved true time and again. And, of course, this hobby fit well with another favourite pastime - somehow there was always an occasion for "just one more little reno". Brenda approached every aspect of her life with unwavering enthusiasm. As a mom, she took cake decorating courses, sewed Halloween costumes, made scavenger and treasure hunts, cooked and baked with her little helper in tow, and played silly games, even going so far as to yell at the thunder from the front deck to show her scared little helper that it wasn't so bad after all. Her sense of fun was contagious, her sense of determination and work ethic an inspiration. She loved her family immensely, she loved her dogs, she loved her job, and she loved her life, living each and every day to the fullest. Brenda will be very dearly missed. A service of Remembrance will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 16th, 2007 at the Kamloops Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Andrew Picklyk officiating. If desired, donations can be made to the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation Campaign for Cancer Care. Kamloops Funeral Home (250) 554 2577 Condolences may be emailed to: sympathy@shawbiz.ca
