It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Annie Mae Cameron, announce her passing on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in Sydney, N.S., April 26, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Florence (Donohue) Slattery.
She worked at Hubley Dry Cleaning before she married 52 years ago.
She spent her life being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and Christian who constantly put the needs of her family and friends ahead of her own.
She was a person of tremendous faith and a past president of the St. Joseph’s CWL and St. Joseph Altar Society and worked tirelessly for that parish. She loved salt water fishing, sewing, bingo, talking politics, going to the casino, puzzles and baking every Friday for the love of her life, her grandson Joshua.
Annie Mae is survived by her son, Jack, New Waterford; son, Tom (Gwen Petrie) Kitchener, Ont.; nephew, Francis (Butch) Drover, Kitchener, Ont.; cherished grandson, Joshua, New Waterford; and godchild, Debbie Murray, New Waterford. Also surviving are brother-in-law, Bobby Donohue, New Victoria; sister-in-law, Claire Donohue, New Victoria, sister-in-law, Jenny (Mrs. Brent Brown), Sydney; cousin, John (Ann) Spears, Sydney; and many other cousins, nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Tom, her daughter, Lynn, her sister, Mary Drover, brother, Alec Donohue, sister-in-law, Bertha Donohue, brother-in-law, Billy Donohue, brother-in-law, John Drover, and her loving friend, Amanda Cameron.
She had many friends that she adored including Sandy and Irene Wilson, Yvonne Poirier and Mary Bernie MacNeil. She especially considered friends Tom and Frannie Bonnar as a son and a daughter and loved their children Tiffany and Keegan as grandchildren. She appreciated Tom and Fran’s kindness and loyalty, compassion and support and loved them deeply.
As per her wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. There will be a funeral mass at the Parish Church of Saint Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, Thursday, Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating. There will be a reception at St. Agnes Hall immediately following the mass. Burial will take place at a later date.
A special thanks to the second floor staff and ER nurses at the New Waterford hospital for their empathy and genuine caring.
She believed in heaven and is there now, playing cards with Dad and Lynn, going to the casino with Menda and Jim, and waiting for a pan of biscuits to come out of the oven to feed everyone. She was very loved and will be missed and always remembered.
Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
