CORUNNA AMY WAYLAND CHARD - WILKIE Dec 20, 1926 ~ July 13, 2007 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Corrie Wilkie on July 13, 2007, with her family by her side. Corrie was predeceased by her husband, the love of her life, Gordon, her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Fern and Lorne, and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Bill and Muriel, and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Pauline and Cliff as well as a nephew Wayne. She leaves to cherish her memory her sister Marion and brother-in-law Allan Noble from Qualicum, her daughters Jill Wilkie (Darryl) and their children Kate and Andrea Thring, Marianne (David) Arduini, their children Craig and Colin Arduini, her son Mark (Bonnie) Wilkie and their children Bryce and Danielle as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Corrie was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan to pioneering parents Harry and Clare Chard. Following her birth and circumstances beyond their control, (the dirty thirties), the family moved to the west coast settling in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. It was there that Corrie grew up and attended school. Corrie excelled in school and sports. Following high school, she left home to attend Old Victoria College and then on to Vancouver General where she became an X-Ray technician. It was during this time that she met the love of her life Gordon Wilkie, they wed, and after only a couple of years in Vancouver, two children later, Jill and Marianne, they moved to Kamloops where their son Mark was born. It was in Kamloops where they settled and have made their home. Corrie was a Supermom before it became fashionable. She worked for the Burris Clinic for more than 30 years balancing a busy and lively family life while working full time. Many happy holidays were spent on Vancouver Island, in the interior on the Shuswap, and traveling the many backroads of B.C. A couple of memorable vacations included a trip to Egypt and England, to the homestead in North Battleford with the grandchildren and finally to the Maritimes and Quebec just a couple of years ago with Jill and Darryl. Corrie was an active, creative and accomplished woman. She was, among other things, a consummate seamstress, dancer, golfer, skier and cook. She loved her gardens and remained in her house managing a huge garden, until her final year. Her family dinners were legendary, as were her apple pies, her door was always open to family and friends. She and Gord loved to dance, golf and camp. She always said she didn't know how she had ever had the time to work as her retirement was filled with friends. She tried to never miss a family activity be it soccer, t-ball, 4-H, she was at them all. Her favourite activities were with her family just conversing, laughing, cheering on her children and grandchildren in their various activities, spending time with her "Golf Buddies" either golfing or at the A&W over a bacon and egger and coffee, playing games at home and watching everyone grow into themselves. Corrie's family will miss her terribly. A Celebration of Corrie's life will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. in the Schoening Funeral Chapel with Canon Jack Phelps officiating. Should friends desire donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 201 - 635 Victoria Street, Kamloops, BC V2C 2B3 in memory of Corrie would be appreciated.
