It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Don on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at Royal Inland Hospital after a lengthy illness. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Billie and his daughters Carol Mathieson, Laurie Reid, Linda Neigel (Don) and Donna Fuoco and his son Ron Mathieson (Bev). He will also be remembered by his grandchildren Johnathan, Joey, James, Anthony, Jennifer (Brett), Meghan, Laurie and Glenn and great grandchildren Cole and Emily. Don was predeceased by his father Jack (Mattie), his mother Lucy and his brother Jack (Gloria) Mathieson and son-in-law Fred Reid. Don will be dearly missed by all who knew him! Don was born in Kamloops on August 30, 1924 and grew up and lived in the Kamloops area for most of his life. Don served in the Navy on the HMCS Discovery from 1943 to 1946. He retired from public service in 1979 after serving 24 years as the Chief Stationary Engineer at the Kamloops Steam Plant which serviced the hospital and government buildings. Don was also active in the Lions Service Club. He was active in retired life enjoying time at Shuswap Lake, gardening and walking his dog, Tammy. Don was also an accomplished plumber, electrician and carpenter and he helped his children to build numerous houses and other projects. The family would especially like to thank Dr. Sigalet for all the years of care given to our Dad. Also thanks to the nurses in ICU, the Stepdown Unit, 5 North and 6 South and to Drs. Hanks, Prasad and Stabler. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 201-635 Victoria Street, Kamloops, BC, V2C 2B3 in memory of Don. At Don's request there will be no formal service. The family will have a private gathering at the Shuswap Lake in his memory. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Schoening Funeral Service, telephone 374-1454.
