Of Gander, NL passed peacefully away on the 13th of December 2009 at the Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavilion, St. John’s, Newfoundland. Born 25 February 1919 in Grand Falls, NL. Son of Allan (1954) and Emma (1977) Bradbury, (nee Dawe) Grand Falls, NL. Survived by his wife Eileen Rosemary Bradbury (nee Gilder) of Rodgers Cove, NL. Predeceased by sisters Joan (Jack) Grace (2009), Goderich, ON; Elsa (Clifford) Allen (1955), Grand Falls, NL; Carolyn (Denny) Goodyear (2002), St. John’s, NL and brother Edward (Phyllis) Bradbury (2004), Detroit, MI. Father of Paul (Audrey) Bradbury, Toronto, ON; Mark (Theresa) Bradbury, St. John’s, NL; Celeste (Brien) Bradbury-Marshall, Ottawa, ON and Saffron Bradbury, Ottawa, ON. Grandfather of Mark A. Bradbury, St. John’s, NL; Jason Bradbury, St. John’s (2001); Gerald Bradbury, Red Deer AB; Karla Bradbury, St. John’s NL; Mark A. T. Bradbury, Victoria, BC; Thomas Marshall, Ottawa. ON; Glenys Marshall, Ottawa, ON. Great-grandfather of Maria and Steven Bradbury, St. John’s NL. Left to mourn are 16 nieces and nephews. Gerald was born in Grand Falls NF and during the Second World War was a member of the Newfoundland Forestry Unit stationed in Scotland and then the Royal Canadian Air Force stationed in England. While there he married Eileen Gilder and they returned to Grand Falls. From there the young family moved to St. John’s during the 50’s and 60’s where he worked with Robin Hood Flour Mills. The family eventually settled in Gander. Gerald was always an active member of his community. While in Grand Falls he was a member of Masonic Lodge Northclift. In Gander he was an integral part of the community spear-heading the 770 Air Cadet Squadron, was instrumental in the development of the Golden Legion Manor senior citizens’ complex in Gander and was an active associate member of the Gander Officer’s Mess. Perhaps his greatest contribution was to the Royal Canadian Legion, serving for three terms as President of the Gander Branch # 8. Gerald worked tirelessly to remind us all of the tremendous sacrifice made by men and women during the World Wars, serving for several years as the Legion’s Sergeant at Arms and parade commander. In that capacity he organized and managed Remembrance Day parades, sang the Airmen’s prayer at remembrance ceremonies and gave countless talks in local schools to young people, all in an effort to keep the tragedy and futility of war fresh in the minds of us all. Gerald was eventually awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, the highest honour conferred by the Royal Canadian Legion on one of its members. Gerald was a gifted singer and contributed greatly to many occasions both sacred and secular. Visitors will be received at Stacey's Funeral Home, 60 Roe Ave., Gander, NL on Tuesday December 15th from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 –- 9:00. Funeral service will be 11:00 Wednesday, December the 16th at St. Martin’s Anglican Church in Gander Located at 4 Lindberg Road. Internment at the All Saints Cemetery.
