LUCAS, Doris Helene – 83, Truro, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, April 8, 2012, at Saint Vincent’s Guest Home, Halifax. Born March 3, 1929, in Port Elgin, New Brunswick, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Irene (Smith) Blackmore. Doris was a faithful member of Salvation Army, Truro Corps, and attended until the past year when ill health prevented her from doing so. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and going to flea markets. Doris is survived by her daughter, Deborah (David) Taylor, Winnipeg; son, Charles (Carol) Hughes, Bible Hill; grandchildren, Alan (Heidi) MacPherson, Dawn Taylor, Angie Taylor, Charlene Taylor, Jennifer McCabe; several great grandchildren; son-in-law, Alan MacPherson, Truro; sister-in-law, Irene Blackmore, Halifax. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, William Raymond Hughes; second husband, Joseph Reginald Lucas; daughter, Gloria MacPherson; sons, Ronald Hughes, William in infancy; sister, Gloria Blackmore; brother, Carl Blackmore. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Doris’ family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m., Friday, April 13, 2012, and where the funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, April 14, 2012, Captain Stephen McNeilly officiating. Reception will follow. Spring interment in Robie Street Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Doris’ memory to The Arthritis Society are welcomed.
