Ryan, Douglas Lamont, 83, of Truro, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2009 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in West Middle Sable, Shelburne County on January 11, 1926, he was a son of the late Clarence and Alice (MacKay) Ryan. Douglas retired from the Canadian National Railway after 42 years where he worked in track maintenance. He was a member of the Truro Heights United Baptist Church and was also a chartered member of Hub Campers of Truro. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jean (Nickerson); son, Alan (Nancy), Lower Truro; daughter-in-law, Cindy Ryan; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son Roger; two sisters and four brothers. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 17th from 7-9pm, with funeral service on Friday, December 18th at 3 pm, both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro. Pastor Greg Porter officiating. Interment at a later date in the Bible Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation.
