KNIPPSHILD: Mrs. Frances Ellen Knippshild, age 86 years, of Swift Current and formerly Simmie, Saskatchewan, passed away April 3rd, 2012 at Palliser Care Centre, Swift Current, Saskatchewan. The Funeral Mass was held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 10th, 2012 from the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Admiral, SK, with Father John Mock assisted by co-celebrant Father James Owolagba officiating. An Honour Guard was provided by the Catholic Women's League (CWL) of Admiral. The eulogy and tribute was presented by Joseph Knippshild and the readings by Dwayne Knippshild and Ross Ferguson. The pallbearers were: Garry Rettenmier, Bernie Korol, Danny Ruest, Emilio Completo, Melvin Larson and Dwayne Larson. The ushers were Frank Hammond and Leon Ruest. The pianist was Margaret Klein and the Hymn Leader was Jocelyn Hammond. The interment service took place at Scotsguard Cemetery, Scotsguard District, SK. Frances is survived by three sons: Joseph (Jan) of Saskatoon, SK, Dwayne (Brenda) of Calgary, AB; Ross (Allison) of Victoria, BC; one brother Tom Fisher of Peterborough, ON; six granddaughters, one grandson; numerous nieces and nephews. Frances was predeceased by her loving husband Clarence Frank in 1998; two brothers Fred and George Fisher; two sisters Elizabeth (Betty) Potter and Sarah (Sally) Middleton. Frances Ellen was born November 22nd, 1925 at Ford City, Essex Co. in the province of Ontario. In 1943 at the age of seventeen, she travelled to Calgary, AB and worked at sundry jobs until returning to Ajax, Ontario to work in a munitions plant, as part of the war effort. At the end of the war, Frances returned to western Canada, (Prince Albert, SK), where she found work at the TB Sanatorium. Sister Millie was recuperating at the Sanatorium and recommended Frances work for her aging mother Theresa Knippshild on the family farm at Simmie. There Frances met and was united in marriage to Clarence October 7, 1946 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Scotsguard. The farm was sold in 2006 and Frances moved to the Pioneer Manor, Swift Current, however, continued to have access to her home and garden on the farm until her recent passing. Frances was very active in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Admiral and previously with St. Mary's Church in Scotsguard, where she was founding president of the CWL in 1951. Upon moving into Swift Current, she was an active participant at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Parish. Her family, grandchildren and friends were always very important to her. She became a mother/grandmother symbol for many in her community and was known to be generous to everyone. Frances enjoyed gardening. Her flower garden was her main focus especially her gladiolus. Frances was known for her bouquets of flowers donated to the Church, to those who needed encouragement or were celebrating special occasions. Frances will be sadly missed yet fondly remembered by family and friends.
