After a brief battle with cancer, the family of Carl Gillis, aged 69, Port Burwell, Ont., announce his passing on July 8, 2008. Loving husband and best friend of Susan (Matheson) for 49 years. Father of Leo (Veronica Brown), Hamilton; Larry, Port Burwell; Wanda (Jim Hoshal), Vienna; Shelley (Brad Louks), Port Burwell; Fabian (Leslie), St Thomas; Carolin (Laird Hendrick), St Thomas; Stephen, Toronto; Michelle, Tillsonburg. Grandfather to 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Brother of Phyllis (late husband Austin) Curley, Ottawa; John (Eunice), Thorsby, Alberta; Arlita (Jim) Hickey, Ottawa; Donnie (Betty), Norboro, P.E.I. Survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Daniel and Margaret Gillis, Norboro, P.E.I.; daughter Aldona McNeill; brothers James and Eugene. Carl was the coowner/operator, along with Susan, of C & S Garage in Port Burwell from 1979 until closing his garage due to declining health in April 2008. Carl\'s family and his work were the joys of his life. Carl will be missed as he always had time to listen to everyone\'s issues, large or small, personal or otherwise. Carl and Susan\'s doors were always open and the coffee pot was available early every morning to both family and patrons. Funeral mass and recognition of a life well lived was celebrated at St. Mary\'s Roman Catholic Church, Tillsonburg, Ontario. Internment St Luke\'s Cemetery, Vienna, Ont.
