WOTHERSPOON: Helen (Klassen), age 87, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2012, at the Swift Current Care Center. Helen was born in the Beaver Flat District on December 26, 1924. She attended the Friessen School and went to the Turnhill Church, were she found her Lord and Savior. She completed her High School in Swift Current. She then worked for a time in the Horse Plant. Helen studied and graduated from Millar College of the Bible. She served in the food services at the New Brunswick Bible School for one term, for several terms at Millar College, and also one term at Briercrest Bible College. Her summers were spent as a Nurses Aid at the Swift Current Union Hospital. In 1961, Helen married Graham Wotherspoon and they moved to the farm in the Success District where she enjoyed growing flowers and a garden. Helen helped with the harvest, by driving truck. She taught Sunday School for a time at the Church of the Open Bible and helped with the treasury work, which included typing correspondences. Helen also hosted some ladies Bible Studies in her home and their place was also where several family gatherings were held. In 1988, Helen and Graham moved to Swift Current. Recently, due to failing health, Helen moved to the Herbert & District Health Facility and a year later to the Swift Current Care Centre, where she resided until she went to be with her Lord. Helen is survived by her husband, Graham; her brothers, Ernie (Helen) Klassen of Langley, BC and Arthur (Olga) Klassen of Herbert, SK; her sisters, Linda Klassen of Swift Current, SK, Susan Fortman of Swift Current, SK, Ruby (Al) Kleps of Stanwood, WA and Gladys (Arthur) Yerex of Strathmore, AB; and many nieces and nephews, who were all special to her. She was predeceased by her parents, Abe & Margaret Klassen; two sisters, Katie (Dan) Klaassen and Elsie (Herman) Klassen; and by three brothers, Frank, Dave and Ed. Helen will be sorely missed by many. The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 2:00 pm from the Church of the Open Bible, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Rob Cochrane officiating. The pianist was Wendy Cochrane with special music brought by Karen Reddekopp, Ray Wittman & Verlan Deobald. “All the Way My Savior Leads Me” and “Amazing Grace” were sung by the congregation. The obituary was read by Cherry Young, with tributes shared by Margie Rhode and Patsie Jury. The ushers in the church were Robert Klassen and Stan Klassen. The Interment was held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, Dennis Bradley, David Wotherspoon, Leslie Wotherspoon, Steve Paterson, Larry Klassen and Wade Klassen. In memory of Helen Wotherspoon, donations made to Gideon’s International or to the Church of the Open Bible Memorial Fund would be appreciated by the family.
