
Howard Ray Smyth
Smyth, Howard Ray – 93, Shortts Lake went on to glory peacefully on April 12, 2012 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Bury, Quebec, he was a son of the late Thomas and Edna (Dorman) Smyth. Howard was a veteran of the Second World War serving overseas. He returned home, married Ethel, drove a truck and then became a successful farmer, later turning the farm into the Covered Bridge Campsite in Milby, Quebec. In 1976 he retired and they moved to Nova Scotia to be near their family. He and Ethel spent 22 winters in sunny Florida enjoying family and friends. He was a great golfer, loved gardening, being outdoors and especially spending time with his family. He is survived by son, Ken (Elizabeth Fox), Truro; daughters, Carol (Vern) Horsman, Grand Manan, Valerie (Garth) Williams, Shortts Lake; daughter-in-law, Sharon Smyth, Shortts Lake; grandchildren, Jonathan, Jeremy, Jen, Carl, Sheri, Josh, Jake, Arielle, Greg, Jason, Matt; 22 great grandchildren; sister, Evelyn; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Ethel; son, Brian; grandson, Stephen; sisters, Hilda and Julia; brothers, Earl and Chester. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 16 at 10:00 am followed by a Royal Canadian Branch 26 Tribute at 11:00 am with the funeral service to follow all in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Rev. Lori Ramsey officiating. Interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, Stewiacke East. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of choice.
