BARR, CHARLES WILLIAM - Mr. Charles William Barr of Sussex, NB, passed away at the Sussex Health Centre on April 12, 2012 at the age of 91. Born in McAdam, NB, on September 18, 1920, he was the son of the late Glendon Everett Barr and Bessie Louise (Burpee). Charles is survived by his wife of 65 years Idora Janette (Foster); his son, David Earle Barr and his wife Ann of Toronto, ON; his daughters: Joanne Louise Barr and her husband Ross Gammon of Fredericton, NB, Joyce Edna Young and her husband Ray of Youngs Cove, NB, and Judith Scott and her husband John of Bridgewater, NS; his grand children: Gwen, Shannon, Christopher, Renee, Evan, James, Geoffrey, Patrick and Julia as well as several nieces and nephews. Charles is predeceased by his brothers, Earl and Burpee and his sisters, Ellen and Evelyn. Charles was a member of the 5th Armoured Division of the 8th Hussars, New Brunswick. He served in Italy in WWII. Sargeant Major Barr was the 8th Hussars representative at Canadian Section GHQ 2nd Echelon. It was while serving in that capacity that he was awarded the MBE for outstanding service in the line of duty. Charles was a life member of the Association of 8th (VIII) Canadian Hussars (Princess Louise’s) Inc., He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Sussex Branch #20, Kiwanas Golden K, Sussex and Area Senior Centre and the United Church of Canada and attended St. Paul's United Church. He retired after 27 years of service as Senior Corporate Trust Officer with the Royal Trust Company in Montreal. The Barr Family would like to thank Dr. Scott Green and the staff at the Sussex Health Center for their care and support.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506) 433-1176. There will be no visitation or funeral service at this time. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the organization of donor’s choice.
