VAN RHYN, Mariette Elodie Passed away peacefully at Pine Grove Care Centre on Sunday, August 26, 2007. Mariette was born in Aalst, Belgium on April 13, 1921, the youngest of Leon and Maria De Schryver's ten children. Married in Belgium in January 1946, she arrived in Canada as a War Bride in September 1946 to join her husband Marius van Rhyn ("Van"). Mariette and Van made their first home in Wardner, BC where they lived for about a year before moving to Galloway in 1947. In 1972 they relocated to Victoria where they resided for twenty years, finally moving to Kamloops in 1992. Predeceased by her husband Van in 1993, and by her parents and siblings. Mariette is survived by two daughters, Mary (Mike Gockij) and Patricia (Mike Hanry); five grandchildren; Elizabeth, Steven, Kevin, Scott (Michelle), and Jeffrey (Tracy); and two great-grandchildren, Camille and Ethan. Friends are invited to share refreshments and memories with the family at 971 Stardust Street in Kamloops on Saturday, September 1, 2007 between 2 and 4 p.m. The family requests that any expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Pine Grove Lodge Residents' Society, 313 McGowan Avenue, Kamloops, B.C., V2B 2N8.
