Muriel Rogers

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Muriel Eileen Rogers age 80 of Amherst, Nova Scotia, announce her peaceful passing with family by her side on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, Nova Scotia.
Born February 29, 1932, in Aroostock Junction, New Brunswick, she was the youngest daughter of the late Ralph and Hazel (Haynes) Finnemore. After graduating Teacher’s College in Fredericton in 1948, she taught at a one-room school house in Limestone, New Brunswick. Married in 1952 she moved to Amherst the following year. She will be fondly remembered by the many students and co-workers she touched as a teacher at Acadia Street and St. Charles elementary schools. Muriel was active in Trinity-St. Stephen’s United Church where she taught Sunday school. A life-long learner, Muriel was particularly proud of earning Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees from Mount Allison University in 1980 and 1986, respectively.
She is survived by her husband, Laurence; son Laurie (Kirsten Goodman) of Puslinch, Ontario; son Keith (Bill Kelly) of Amherst, Nova Scotia; grandchildren Gregory and Julia; sister Marie (Paul Hanscombe) , California Settlement, New Brunswick; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church Street, Amherst. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2012, at 2 p.m. from Trinity-St. Stephen’s United Church, Amherst, with Rev. Lloyd Bruce and Rev. Susan Estabrooks officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in the Amherst Cemetery.
