Franklin Alexander MacLeod, 71, Pitt Street, Sydney Mines, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2012, at the Northside General Hospital with his Cape Breton family by his side, and his Calgary family with him in spirit.
Frank was born in Big Bras d’Or on Feb. 19, 1941, to the late John M. and Agnes (MacDonald) MacLeod.
He was a member of St. Joseph parish, Bras d’Or.
He was affectionately known as the ‘Governor.’ He was an avid traveller, and with his wife Willena travelled across Canada and the U.S. in their aptly named camper “The Governor’s Mansion.”
Frank is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Willena (Fahie) MacLeod; daughters, Brenda, Baddeck, and Veronica (Blair), Calgary; sons, Ian (Gina), Baddeck, Lloyd, Bras d’Or, Lorne (Roxanne), Big Bras d’Or, Keith, and Sandy (Tiffany), both of Calgary. Also left to mourn are his grandchildren, Jo-Anne (Jamie), Megan, Allysa, Allyson and their father Freeman, B.J. (Krissy), Ashley (Dave), Allena, Leah, Megan, Joey, Katie, Brandon, Makenna, Campbell, Ian, Taylor, Nathan and Kristin; and great-grandchildren, Dallas, Duncan, John B., Ilsa, Kyleigh, Rebecca and Jason. He is also survived by a sister, Katherine (Jackie Allen); nephews, Jason and John; neice, Rachel (Billy); sisters-in-law, Shirley Walker (George), Irene Belanger (Ray); brother-in-law, Lorne Fahie (Allie); cousins, Carol MacDonald and Kaye Smith; family friend, Mary Young, and his camping family at Glenview.
Frank and Willena’s house was always filled with laughter and music, and all the neighbour kids loved to gather there.
Visitation for the late Frank MacLeod will be held Thursday, April 19, 2012, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of his life will take place Friday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph church, Bras d’Or, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. A reception will be held in the parish hall, following the service.
