Passed in: British Columbia, Canada

Macham Gladys Margaret (nee Longhurst) February 19, 1912 - September 20, 2007 Mom (G.G.) passed away peacefully at Rest Haven Lodge Sidney, BC on September 20th, 2007. She was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, the daughter of Hilda and Albert Longhurst. Mom was predeceased by her beloved brother Bert Longhurst. She is survived by her sons; Robert (Linda) Macham, Quesnel, BC, Murray Macham (Rosemary Bridge), Langley, BC, and daughters; Geraldene (Ian) Norie, Sidney, BC, and Leona Berry (Bill Cleveland), Brownwood, Texas. She had five precious grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren that she cherished dearly. She also is survived by her loving niece Marjorie (Bob) Thornton and nephew Douglas Longhurst. She will also be missed by her dear extended family in Kamloops, Mike and Lynn Lukow and their children especially Caley. Mom lived a very full life right to the end. She was a loving and caring person for her family and others she met along her life journey. Her greatest love for children gave her title to G.G., Granny or Gamma to many children. Mom obtained her teaching diploma in Calgary Normal School and her degree in teaching at the Edmonton University. After graduation she taught in many one-room schools in Alberta before coming with her mother to live in Victoria. She married our Dad, Gordon and raised her three children in Victoria and then later the family moved to Kamloops where she was blessed with our sister Leona's birth. In Kamloops she continued her teaching by substituting. Her final achievement in teaching was to learn to sign language allowing her to assist the hearing impaired children. Mom had strong religious beliefs in the Jehovah Witness that gave her great comfort in a time of her life when her children had left the home in Kamloops. Here she met many wonderful friends whom supported her so well that she could continue to live her independent life as she aged. Mom moved to Sidney in 1999 allowing her to be near her daughter Gerry in her final years. This move she quickly accepted as a challenge for her future and later in 2002 moved to Rest Haven Lodge, where again she joined into all and as many functions as was possible. Mom loved Rest Haven Lodge and all the wonderful caring people that supported her, giving this busy Lady a quality of life with love and happiness to the end. Our family wishes to sincerely thank all the staff of Rest Haven Lodge for their loving care; you are all Angels. We especially wish to thank her private companions Glenys, June and Jeanette for all their help in keeping Mom active and happy in her last years. At Mom's request a celebration of her life will be held at Rest Haven Lodge on September 26th, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. She will be cremated under the care of Sequoia Memorial Gardens, Royal Oak. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mom may be made to Rest Haven Lodge - Music Therapy Fund, 2281 Mills Road, Sidney, BC, V8L 2C3. And while she lies in peaceful sleep, Her memory we shall always keep
