States, Beulah Colleen — 70, of Three Mile Plains, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2012, with her husband and children by her side, in the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on December 8, 1941, in Windsor, Hants County, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Cora (Upshaw) Gray. She was a much loved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, sister-in-law and friend. Most importantly she was a much loved wife and “lover” to her devoted and loving husband Lawrence States. She had a passion and love for equality and fairness, and served as an advocate and community activist while working for the Black United Front and volunteering her time in political activities. Her love for children afforded her the opportunity to serve as a Teachers’ Assistant for over 12 years with the Department of Education, assisting children with special learning needs. She was a member of many organizations and she served the Lord faithfully as a member of the Windsor Plains Baptist Church. Beulah is survived by her husband, Lawrence; children,  Andrea (Eugene) Anderson, Dartmouth, Belinda Bezanson, Dartmouth, Blair (Jeannette) States, Halifax, Cora (Darnell) Tolliver, Halifax;  grandchildren, Nathan States, Halifax, Alan Bezanson, New Brunswick, Glen States, Dartmouth,  Amber Bezanson, Hantsport, Tanner Tolliver, Halifax, Zoe Tolliver, Halifax;  great-grandchild, Donoven Bezanson, Hantsport, brothers and sisters; Flossie Walker, Ontario, Portia States, Halifax, Karen Gray, Windsor, Clyde (Evelyn) Gray, Ontario, Thomas (Michelle) Gray, Halifax, Anthony Gray, Halifax,  Harley (Juanita) Gray, Ontario,  Martin (Lynn) Gray, Ontario, Glenn (Kathy) Gray, Dartmouth, Kenneth Gray, Ontario, Leslie Gray, Vancouver. Beulah was predeceased by a sister, Joan States; brother, Stewart Gray.  Funeral arrangements were under the care of Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. There was no visitation by request. A Memorial service for Beulah was held, 2 p.m. Thursday April 12, 2012, in the Windsor United Baptist Church, 441 King Street, Windsor. The Rev. Glenn Gray officiated. Burial will take place at a later date. The family extend a special thank you to the Palliative Care Unit at the Hants Community Hospital.
