After a brief battle with cancer, with family by her side, Lorraine started her new journey in life.
Her memory will be cherished forever by her best friend and husband, Casey; her daughters, Carol MacDonald (Jamie), Fort McMurray, Alta., Sherri Rothwell, Winnipeg, Man., Karen Gartner (Jesse), Edmonton, Alta., Marlene Funk (Len), Abbotsford, B.C. and her seven grandchildren. Lorraine is also survived by her dear sisters, Jean Cummings and June Horne (Wayne), both of Abbotsford; as well and many nieces and nephews and numerous friends who adored her.
Lorraine was predeceased by her parents, Victor and Alberta Bannister.
Lorraine was born in Sydney, N.S. She attended Normal College in Truro, N.S. and taught at Central School in Sydney until she met and married the love of her life, Casey and moved to Winnipeg, Man., where they raised their family. In 1988 they moved to Abbotsford, B.C.
Lorraine retired in 2005 but retirement didn’t last long. She spent the remainder of her years volunteering at Northview Community Church, assisting in the kitchen and reception. Lorraine was most happy when she was serving others.
We will miss Lorraine’s incredible humour, generosity and caring spirit, she always put others before herself.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the Cascades Hospice Center for their kindness and compassion during Lorraine's brief stay as well as to her niece, Darlene Goetz who was such a blessing to Lorraine and the family during this difficult time.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. at the Northview Community Church, 32040 Downes Rd., Abbotsford, BC.
