Born in Sydney Mines on Dec. 26, 1941, and a lifelong resident of Sydney Mines, David was the son of the late Frank and Jessie (Cann) Powers. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, father-in-law, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather, who will be deeply missed by all.
David was employed with Devco for 29 years, working at the No.1 Colliery, Lingan Mine and Prince Colliery until his retirement.

He was a much loved brother to Dorothy Kippax, Ontario, Jessie and Ross King, Ontario, Margaret Stewart, Millville, Eva and Andy MacPherson, Alberta, Donna and Arthur Reyners, Millville, Valerie (Powers) Tobin, Millville, Charlie Powers, Montreal, and sister-in-law, Ann Marie Powers, Sydney Mines. David will be sadly missed by several nieces and nephews, as well as his feline friend, Charlie.
Besides his parents, David was predeceased by his brothers, Cecil Cann and Dan Powers and his sister, Rosie (Powers) Hillier.
Visitation for the late David Powers will be held in the J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, today (Wednesday), April 18, 2012, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of his life will take place on Thursday at 2 p.m. in Trinity Anglican Church, Queen Street, Sydney Mines, with Rev.
