BROWN, ELIJAH MATTHEW - The death of Elijah Matthew Brown, 89, of Southampton, occurred on Monday, April 16, 2012 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. Elijah was a son of the late Aaron and Gertrude (McAloney) Brown of East Mapleton, Lynn Mountain. Elijah had been one of the pioneers of the blueberry industry having farmed them for over seventy-five years. He was an avid woodsman, loving hunting, fishing, and trapping ever since he was a young boy. Elijah was a Jack of all trades and loved a good game of cards at the camp and at the seniors centre. He was a life member of the Knights of Pythias. Elijah will be sadly missed by his sons, Gary (Linda) Brown, Springhill and John (Faye) Brown, Fredericton. He was a loving family man and will be also missed by his five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one sister, Ida Cameron; two brothers, Elisha and Paul as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife the former Phyllis J. Sproul in 2002; an infant son Joey; an infant daughter Joy; brothers, Charlie Brown, Roy Lewis, Mason Welch, Ira Welch, and Charlie Lewis; and sister Hattie McLean Maude Lewis.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of A. H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902-597-2361) where visitation will be held 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Thursday, April 19, 2012. Funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Friday, April 20, 2012 from the Funeral Home with The Reverend Wayne McCarther officiating. Burial to follow in Mapleton Cemetery. If so desired, donations in Elijah's memory may be made to the Mapleton Cemetery.
