Alfred Kimm
Passed in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: April 13th, 2012
Alfred Carl Kimm, 90 of Glace Bay, passed away Friday, April 13, 2012, at home after a brief battle with cancer.
Alf was the son of the late Helene (Mann) and Walter Kimm of Birch Grove.
Despite being seriously wounded in Italy and returning with 19 bullet holes, he was a survivor of the Second World War. He said he promised God that if he got out alive he would serve him for the rest of his life, and he kept his promise. He learned the Bible and became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and right up until his death he loved to teach people about the Bible. He also told about arriving home, how he was left at the train station and had to hitchhike home to Glace Bay. The first place he went was to the love of his life Violet, who he married shortly afterwards.
Alf was predeceased by Violet eight months ago, after 67 years of marriage.
Alf enjoyed doing mechanical work, carpentry, and wood crafting. If you went to visit him you were sure to leave with a bird, a butterfly, or something that he had carved. He also took pride in the vegetable and flower gardens that he grew.
Alfred is survived by son, Wayne (Kathy) and only grandchild, Pamela. He is also survived by brother, Max, Birch Grove; sisters, Hannah Dean, Birch Grove and Anne Dean, British Columbia; in-laws, John (Mae) Hiscock, Sheldon (Ester) Hiscock, Glace Bay, Diane (Jimmy) Wilson, Bess MacDonald, both of Ontario and by numerous nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by his sister, Lena; brothers, Henry (Heine), Carl and Walter (Hunt).
In honouring Alf’s wishes there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel, Sydney. A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses 257 Reserve St. Glace Bay, Saturday April 21, 2012 at 2 p.m. Following the service, a reception will be held. All are welcome.
