JOHNSTONE, Irene Catherine – 82, Shortts Lake. It is with great sadness that Irene’s family announces her passing on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born February 28, 1930, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of the late Gerald and Lottie (Redden) Osborne. Irene enjoyed her many years at Shortts Lake. She will be forever remembered as a kind, caring and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Love everlasting. Irene is survived by her son, David “Bub” Johnstone, Truro Heights; daughters, Nancy-Jean Johnstone, Shortts Lake; Susan Johnstone, Truro; grandchildren, Lee James, Ellen Atkinson, Truro; former husband, Peter G. Johnstone, Riverview, New Brunswick; sister, Geraldine Marshall, Valley; brothers, Cyril (Sharon) Osborne, Hilden; Gerald Osborne, Jr., Edmonton, Alberta; Lloyd Osborne (Sandra Hollis), Truro Heights; sister-in-law, Jamesie Adams, Brookfield; several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Marge Woodworth; brother, Fred Osborne. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Monday, April 23, 2012, Mr. Leland H. MacLean, DLM officiating. Reception will follow. Interment will be held at a later date in Robie Street Cemetery. Family flowers only.
