PICTOU – The family wishes to announce, with heavy hearts, the passing of James Hugh “Jim†Williams, 67, a loving husband, father, grandfather “Papaâ€, brother, and friend on December 16, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family, friends, and loved ones, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late John Donald and Elda (Campbell) Williams.
A retired employee of Michelin Tire, he was also a former employee of National Sea and Stright-MacKay Ltd. Jim was a longtime member and elder of First Presbyterian Church, Pictou, a 30 year member of the Pictou Fire Department, and an active volunteer with the Food Bank and Meals on Wheels.
Devoted to his family he is survived by his wife, Mable (Guthro) (Carrigan) Williams; sons, Jimmie (Amy), Pictou; Allan (Jody), North Rustico, PEI; daughter, Emily (John) Charlton, Little Harbour; grandchildren, Jessica and Brady Williams; Mackenzie and Matthew Williams; Bryanna and Evan Charlton; brother, Donnie (Carol Ann), Fredericton; sister, Agnes (Ken) Turner, Fall River; step-children, Paula (Rick) Behie, New Glasgow; Blake (Heather) Carrigan, Kenzieville; step-grandchildren, Michelle (Murray) Stewart, Kyle, Tyler, and Nicole Behie; Sandy and Sara Carrigan; step-great-granddaughter, Matty Stewart.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his first wife, Heather (MacKenzie) and brother, Jackie Williams.
Visitation will take place 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday from First Presbyterian Church, Pictou, with Rev. Iona MacLean officiating. Burial will follow in Haliburton Cemetery.
