Passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, St. John’s, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, December 17th, (Mary) Colette Shannahan (nee O’Brien), age 73 years. Predeceased by her husband William (Bill), son Kevin, grandson Daniel and son-in-law John (Buddy) Smith. Also predeceased by her much loved brothers Michael and Eugene, and sisters DeSales, Hilda, Pauline and Helen, and her parents Mary and Dennis O’Brien. Mom will be greatly missed and always dearly loved by her eight children: Linda (Rick), Billy (Linda), Lally (Donna), Colleen (Thomas), Glenis (Pat), Eleanor (Quentin) and Cherie-Lynn. Mom rejoiced in the birth of each of her fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. They brought much joy to her life and always held a special place in her heart. Holding their precious memories of Nanny so very close are Susie, Sandi and Shane, Melissa-Lynn and Nathan, Charmaine and Mackey, Kaitlin, Joanna and Shannon, Shelby and Sarah, Isaac and Alex, whom Nanny lovingly referred to as her two little bunny rabbits. Also three great-grandchildren: Lucas, Baileigh and Ashlin. Survived by her three sisters: Winnie Stratton, Catherine (Doug) Woodburn, and Alice Kavanagh. She leaves to mourn a large extended family and cherished circle of friends and newest best friend, and home care worker Verda Kavanagh. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Ryan’s Funeral Home in Bay Bulls. Visitation hours Friday, December 18th, 2 to 9 p.m., Saturday, December 19th, 2 to 9 p.m. Funeral service Sunday 3 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Calvert. Flowers gratefully accepted.
