Foote: Raymond Perry “Ray”, Truro NS, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 in the Colchester Regional Hospital Truro. Ray had journeyed with cancer for several years. Born March 22, 1949 he was a son of the late Harry and Ellen (Dill) Foote. He grew up in Woodville NS. After initial studies and Nova Scotia Agricultural College, Ray went on to study Business Administration at Acadia University graduating in 1972, BBA. He later pursued Adult Education Program at St. Francis Xavier. After university Ray immediately began work with the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture, During his long career Ray was active in Marketing Development identifying, developing and promoting opportunities in Nova Scotia Agriculture and Trade. He participated in an inter-departmental committee to study the implications and advisability of the School Milk Program. Participated in the establishment of a swine sales stock society for NS and actively promoted pork production in NS. Participated in numerous promotional programs of commodity groups represented in NS. Was involved in the School Apple Program in co-operation with Scotian Gold. He worked with colleagues to develop Direct Marketing Surveys as well as Cattle Market Guides. Started work with Roadside Markets and also put on many short courses for strawberries, vegetables and rabbit production. Helped establish a remote Bulletin Board Service to provide market information before the Internet. Worked with Nova Scotia Fox Breeders on fur market development for both national and international markets resulting in the establishment of Majestic Fur Association with membership from trappers, mink and fox ranchers. Traveled extensively locally, nationally and internationally attending conferences and trade shows to find technology and ideas beneficial for Nova Scotia farms. Was involved in many national committees, founding member of Market Development Council. Ray was active in promoting Archery in Nova Scotia, serving in the Archery Canada organization in the early 90’s. During his free time Ray enjoyed being very active outdoors with nature and working on projects with his friends ... an avid outdoor sportsman he could often be found on his snowmobile and ATV on remote trails, watching the rhythm of the fundy tides or hunting, boating and fishing with friends and family… Survived by: son Jason (Truro), daughter Tiffany Jull (Noel) Kitchener ON, grandchildren, Grace and Patrick Jull; brother, Robert, Albany NY; close companion Eefie Crowell. Visitation will be held 6-7pm Sunday, December 20, and a celebration of his life will follow at 7pm all in the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro, with Rev. David Lutes officiating. A reception will then follow in the funeral home. Interment to be held at a later date in the Watson Cemetery, Truro. Family flowers only.
