SHUPE – Walter passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer on December 17, 2009 at the Victoria Hospital. He was born on May 29, 1925 to Ethel and George Shupe and was raised in the Melfort area. He met and married Sadie O’Brien on March 15, 1958 and together they raised 5 children in La Ronge. Walter spent his working life in the mining exploration field. Walter had a cabin at La Ronge Lake where he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid outdoors man, garage sale and antique lover. Upon retirement, Walter and Sadie opened a greenhouse which they operated for 20 years. In 2004 they sadly said goodbye to La Ronge and moved to Prince Albert to be closer to family and medical care. Walter is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sadie; his children Louise Millions of Saskatoon, SK, Verna (Elmer Kleiboer) of Weldon, SK, Donna (Hank) Gondek of Prince Albert, George (Debora) of Saskatoon, SK, and Dianne (Joe) Rienhardt of Regina, SK; as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren. Special thanks go to Dr. Michelle James, the staff at the Saskatoon Cancer Clinic, the staff on Level 5 at the Victoria Hospital and Prince Albert Parkland Home Care. Celebration of Walter’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Tony Thompson officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to Saskatoon Cancer Clinic. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca.
