Passed on: December 1st, 2009

On Dec. 1, 2009, Martin Sebastian Flowersmith passed away at Richmond Villa Veterans Centre in St. Peter’s, Cape Breton, N.S., at the age of 77 years.
Born in Toronto in 1932, he was predeceased by his father, Martin and mother, Joan.
Survived by sons, David, Martin Jr., Fred, Bob, Chris, Don, Jim, Paul and daughter, Elise, along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his good friends, Sandy, Clayton, and a host of naval comrades who knew him as ‘Rosie,’ from HMCS Huron, with whom he served his country during the Korean War.
After his service in the navy he pursued his life’s calling as a stationary engineer from international airports to the Nova Scotia Power Commission at Point Tupper, N.S., finishing a long and successful career serving his country as an engineer with the Canadian Coast Guard on icebreakers in Canada’s arctic. A “well read” man, Martin loved his life in Cape Breton, he could always be found at his “castle” in River Denys pursuing one of his many pastimes.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
