NEW GLASGOW – Charles Austin Dwyer, age 94 of MacLean Street, New Glasgow, passed away May 3, 2012 in the Northumberland Veteran’s Unit, Pictou.
Born in River John, he was a son of the late George Thomas and Florence (Robinson) Dwyer.
Austin had been a resident of Halifax before moving to New Glasgow in 1962. He was sales manager at Hillcrest Motors in Halifax for 17 years before moving to New Glasgow where he owned and operated Dwyer Motors on Westville Road for 17 years. Austin served overseas with the navy during WW II. He was a member of St. Georges Anglican Church, New Glasgow where he served as a warden. He was also a former member of the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife Rolina (Legge); son Colin, New Glasgow; daughters Brenda, Halifax; Bonnie (Peter) Greenwood, Halifax; grandchildren: Lisa Starr and Jason Shedden great-grandchildren, Hannah and Jordan; sisters Muriel Reid, Charlottetown; Myrtle Langille, Pictou; brothers, William, River John; Arthur, Truro; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter Ardith Marie; sisters: Florence, Mae and Violet; brothers: George, Leslie James Cyril and Bennett.
There will be no visitation at the request of the deceased. A public memorial service service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Aidan Kingsbury and Rev. Mark Pretty officiating. A reception will follow the service in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Abercrombie Cemetery.
No flowers by request.Donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
