RIVERTON – Gordon “Buck” MacLean, age 84, of Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Riverton, passed away December 22, 2009 in the Villa.
Born in Elgin, Pictou County, he was a son of the late John and Jessie MacLean.
Buck lived his early years in Elgin and had been a resident of Riverton since 1956. Gordon and his late wife Nellie owned and operated Gordon “Buck” MacLean Excavating until his retirement in 1993. He had served for a short time in the Canadian Navy and was a member of Branch No. 28 Royal Canadian Legion, Stellarton. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton. Buck was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Hopewell, and the IOOF Lodge.
He is survived by a son, Barry (Heather), Riverton; step-daughter, Brenda (Blaine) Boutilier, Dartmouth; grandchildren: Brandon, Cory and Marissa; step-grandchildren, Chris and Jill.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Nellie Johnston; brothers: Jack, Weldon and David.
His remains will rest in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday. Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. in First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton, with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. Burial will be in Riverton Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Buck may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Valley View Villa.
