Mary (Vonnie) Bobyk

Passed in: Whitney Pier, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: December 21st, 2009

Veronica Bobyk passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with grace and dignity.
Born in Donkin (Dominion No. 6), Vonnie was the daughter of the late Lambert and Stella (MacKenzie) Giovannetti. Educated in Donkin and Sydney, Vonnie graduated from the Empire Business College, and at an early age, travelled to Ottawa to work during the war years with the Department of Agriculture.
She returned after the war, married and settled in Sydney. For a number of years she operated her own grocery business, J.B.’s Dairy on Lingan Road in Whitney Pier, retiring in June of 1990.
A devout Catholic, Vonnie was a member of Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, Sydney. A quiet and unassuming woman, full of compassion and caring, she enjoyed traveling, playing cards and was an avid reader. Until recently she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing. Vonnie was a devoted wife, mother and sister. She loved to laugh and reminisce about growing up in Donkin, and time spent with her brothers and sisters with whom she shared a lifelong bond. Vonnie’s greatest joy was time spent with her two daughters, and the adoration was mutual.
Vonnie is survived by her two loving daughters, Valerie, Halifax, and Erica, Sydney, with whom she resided. She is also survived by her sisters, Agnes Montague, Toronto, and Mrs. Elizabeth ‘Carmel’ Ranni, Halifax; her brother, John Cameron Giovannetti, Fredericton; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John (JB) in 1986, brothers, Donald, Adrian and in infancy, a brother, Daniel Humbert, and a sister, Mary Frances. Vonnie will be missed by all of her friends.
There will be no visitation for the late Mrs. Bobyk. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Holy Ghost Church, Whitney Pier. Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday with a reception to follow in the church hall. Private interment will be held at a later date.
Donations may be made to the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Church Building Fund.
