We regret to announce the death of Donnie who passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2012.
Donnie was born in Chéticamp and was the son of Roland and Germaine.
He is also survived by his brother Ronnie and his special niece Star Doucet, all from Cheticamp. He will be dearly missed by his family and extended family; his friends; co-workers and various other people he worked with over the years.
He is also survived by his godparents, Loubie and Patricia Roach.
He was predeceased by maternal grandparents, Job and Marie Leblanc and paternal grandparents, Phillip and Katie Mae Doucet.
Donnie, as he was known to his family and friends, completed high school at NDA in Chéticamp, N.S. and later graduated with a law degree from l’Université de Moncton.
After his admission to the bar, he practised law for several years in Port Hawkesbury with the firm of LeBlanc MacDonald. He also worked as Crown prosecutor in Halifax for the province of Nova Scotia and was currently practising law with Legal Aid in Lethbridge, Alta. Prior to this, he had also practised law for Alberta Legal Aid in Calgary.
Donnie is a former president of l’AJEFNÉ, NS French Lawyer’s Association and was a board member of la FAJEF, the Canadian Federation of French Lawyers Association. Donnie loved his work as a lawyer and was a firm believer in language rights.
Donnie lead a full life and was well travelled for his young years. While studying in France during his time at university, he visited the whole of Europe. He loved people and was a joy to be with and work with. He enjoyed Ski-Dooing, ATV riding and playing cards with friends.
Visitation for Donnie will be held at the Chéticamp Funeral Home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today (Thursday). Funeral mass will take place in St. Peter’s Church, Chéticamp on 10:30 a.m. on Friday, with Fr. Bedford Doucette officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
Donations in Donnie’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
