It is with deep sadness that the family announce the passing of their father, John, on May 10, 2012, at home.
Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late John and Julia (Kayer) Warcop.
John was a member of St. John's Parish Church. He was a longtime member of the KOC and the Glace Bay Pensioner’s Club, where he met many friends and loved to play cards. John was also an avid bowler for many years.
John was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
He is survived by daughters, Dorothy (John) Kelly, Sydney River, Debbie, Ontario; sons, Vincent (Rita), Mabou, Blair (Joan), Ontario, John (Margie), Brian (Jackie), both of Glace Bay, Darrel (Joyce), Ontario; sisters, Mary, Ontario, Julia, Vancouver; sister-in-law, Beatrice Warcop, Reserve. “Grampy” will be sadly missed by 25 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his loving wife, Amelia (Mullins), sons, Gary, Jackie, sister, Chris Cowan, brothers, Vincent, Angus, Steve, Joe, three grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. John’s Church with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Burial to follow in St. John's Cemetery. Following the burial, a reception will be held in St. Leo’s Church.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made in John's name to the Glace Bay Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
